CLASS 5 MONDAY 8th October 2018 – Please CALL / TEXT me if you need anything… |
|
MORNING |
Good Morning! – As the children arrive, please ask them to complete the dinner register and ensure water bottles are filled – there are monitors for this.
Please ask the children to READ or to go over their spellings before the test after break.
Mile-A-Day.

MASS |
Hilda mentioned that she might try to come in to read with the kids after Mass – could you just tell her that I’m not in this week and that we can do it next week instead?
|
LITERACY |
The children should by now be on their THIRD paragraph, which you will need to discuss with them before they write. So far they have written an “introduction”, a “DANGERS” paragraph and a “DESTROYING OF FAMILIES AND THE HISTORY OF MUDDLY” paragraph.
Grace and Liam could share their writing so far with the class to set the scene.
I would like the children to work with you to come up with potential ideas for their THIRD paragraph. This is to be about HOW IT WILL AFFECT THE COMMUNITY.
I have included a powerpoint HERE which you can use to introduce the idea to the children. It includes an example “linking phrase” to use at the start, which will provide textual cohesion and some possible examples.
On the normal whiteboard, gather some suggestions with the children – only 4 or 5 as otherwise it gets too messy.
Possible suggestions:
· It will slice the town in two: Split families / MORE difficult to get places · It will destroy the “heart” of Muddly: Destruction of historically important sites / Loss of character – all new buildings look the same. · It will ruin the community feel: family market / conversations on quiet streets / shops lost forever · It will send people away: Nowhere to live / Big Road instead / People won’t come to visit or choose to live.
Once you have gone through the introduction it will be up to the children to write it. HERE is a document which contains:
1: PLANNING SHEET. ALL children to complete this – BASED on what you put on the board. They should ONLY select the parts that they are going to use from your plan – AND expand on the ideas a little. I do not want them to stick this in – they just need to refer to it.
Can children please write on some lined paper rather than their books (except Grace who CAN write in her yellow book). You may need to take apart a book for this if there is no paper in the lined paper drawer.

AFTER LUNCH:
MATHS TEST & SPELLINGS |
SPELLING TEST – The children SHOULD be able to organise this – They have test sheets in the folders on their tables. At the end can you record the results on a class list? You can print one HERE
The children will then need to complete ARITHMETIC TEST 8 which you can print HERE. Can it please be printed back-to-back? Grace will need one printing onto YELLOW paper. If there is none of the pale yellow, then the deeper yellow is at the back of the room and in the stock cupboard. If you print out 25 copies this will be enough and include one extra for later!
I usually give the children 40 minutes to complete the test, which should take you up to break time. They are to work independently and silently – except HR – and you can help him to tackle the questions with a quiet word in his ear!
AFTER BREAK
Can you go through the test with the children please? I usually use the AV viewer on the screen so that children can see me doing the calculations. Liam has been getting 40 out of 40 on this and I would like him to model / demonstrate his answers to the questions.
If you print out one extra blank copy then he can talk through this using the AV viewer. The app to launch this is on the desktop and looks like an upside down orange v symbol.
This will most likely take the whole of this session. If for any reason it doesn’t – children can read / continue with literacy or complete RE activity from last week. If it takes longer – don’t worry we will finish it on Tuesday!

END OF DAY |
There you have it. Hope you have a great day. If you need anything, please call or text. Funeral isn’t until 12 and I will be fine to answer questions until then. |
