There is a touch of nostalgia in the village of King’s Oak, as a family-run hotel on the brink of closure has been bought by local businessman, who has decided to return it to its previous identity in an attempt to reverse its fortunes.

The hotel, which is to revert to its original name, “Crossroads”, is set in 14 acres of mature grounds with a peaceful lakeside setting. It was originally opened in 1963 by widower, Meg Richardson, and has been sold several times over the years.

The new owner, Mr. Chance (71) has a long association with the hotel, having been general manager throughout the 1980’s.

“When I saw it was for sale, it was an opportunity to good to miss,” said Mr. Chance, who has bought the hotel as an investment for himself and his wife, Jill, who is also the daughter of the original owner.

“We will be investing in all areas of the hotel, including completing the bedroom refurbishments started by the previous owners and working with the team to develop the food and drink offering, which we see as a real opportunity.”

To celebrate the purchase, Mr. and Mrs. Chance have decided to open the doors to many local businesses, and they are holding a re-launch party for invited guests on Saturday.

“It feels so good to back after all these years,” said Mr. Chance. “I’ve already had many telephone calls from previous guests, who can’t wait to return to Crossroads.”
